Put your Faith in Action!Put Your Faith In Action!   Every house Habitat builds stands testimony to our awesome God, fully able to meet the needs of His people if we will but step out in faith.  Emotions run high when the completed house is dedicated, and the new homeowners have the opportunity to thank God, the volunteers and their sponsor who made it all possible.  Nothing personalizes the effort to provide simple, decent shelter for families in need like house sponsorship.  This is much more than just arranging a church workday for members to volunteer to “do Habitat.”   Sponsors latch onto the exciting vision to provide a new home for a family currently living in overcrowded, unsafe or unhealthy conditions.  This is a family the sponsor can meet and work alongside, mentor, and celebrate with.  Habitat for Humanity puts a human face on the seemingly intractable problem of substandard housing.

Sponsorship is a commitment to provide the resources to make it possible for Habitat for Humanity to construct one additional house.  Metro Camden Habitat for Humanity already has the project management, the supervision, the vehicles, the equipment, the tools and the warehouse in place to rebuild neighborhoods.  Sponsorship makes it possible for us to build more homes to meet the crushing need in Camden.

Roof installation The incremental cost to build/rebuild one house in Camden City is $75,000.  Naturally, materials or services that can be provided in-kind reduces the cash investment.  When Trinity Presbyterian Church decided to take on the challenge of sponsoring a house, they already had some creative ideas in mind.  Members of the church were able to shingle the roof of the house they were sponsoring which saved them the cost of hiring a roofer.

Trinity Presbyterian ChurchTrinity Presbyterian Church members were involved in all aspects of the build, ranging from house construction to fundraising to publicity, to being a liaison for the homeowner.  Even the children in the Sunday school got involved by collecting change in their house-shaped coin boxes.

Some churches like the sponsorship concept, but a whole house is a stretch.  They can select a piece of a house to sponsor, anything from a half house ($37,500) to the appliance package ($1600).

An Apostles Build is the perfect solution to working together as a community to help a family in need.  Several churches within a denomination or a geographic area may choose to collaborate to sponsor a house.  Churches in the suburbs may collaborate with sister churches in the city.

Jewish Community of South Jersey

The Jewish Community of Southern NJ demonstrated this concept when they built the “Shalom House.” Members of synagogues from Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties came together to raise the funds and then build the “Shalom House.”  The kick-off (pictured above) energized the first Jon Corzineworkgroup before they began to gut the interior and then rehabilitate the house.  Even Governor Jon Corzine (left) pitched in one Sunday morning to help build a closet.

Regardless of the size of your congregation, everyone can get involved in helping Habitat for Humanity.   People are needed to raise awareness, raise funds, pray, plan meals and devotions, publicize the project, create community, schedule volunteers, build, etc.

We are flexible in partnering with Houses of Worship as well as other organizations and would like to meet with you to discuss how to get started.  Please Contact Us to set up an appointment.
